Kandahar Province spreads from the Registan desert in the south to the hills of Shah Wali Kot in the north. These are its key districts, mapped.

The guides above cover the districts in and around Kandahar city and the main river valleys, where most of the province's population and farmland lie. Kandahar Province also contains more remote and sparsely documented districts — among them Khakrez, Ghorak, Arghistan, Maruf, Shorabak, Reg and Nesh — which are largely desert or hill country with small, scattered populations. Exact district boundaries and even the official count have shifted over the years as new districts have been carved out, so lists compiled at different dates do not always agree.
